Terrific tortoise/ Schöne Schildkröte

It must have been at the end of last year when a colleague asked me if I would crochet a turtle pillow for her. Sure thing, it’s a new challenge. I had some other projects I wanted to finish first and in the end I started later than originally planned. Three weeks ago I was optimistic to have it finished until she returns from vacation but as I haven’t had as much time for crochet as I thought it took until today.

I wanted to use this pattern but didn’t like the bows. Instead, I crocheted hexagons for the top and accidentally sew seven on the top one. But I like the outcome a lot better as the top hexagon looks like a circle.

I must confess that I was too lazy to crochet another 8 hexagons for the bottom and decided on a circle with color changes. I used a carton disk to get a plain undersurface.

The turtle is stuffed with a pillow. Head, legs and tail were sewed on after stuffing.

I used the above mentioned pattern for the head but made up the legs and tail how I liked it. If the eyes look familiar I used the same buttons as for the bus piggy bank.

I’m very satisfied with the result and more than glad that my colleague is happy about it.

Es muss gegen Ende letzten Jahres gewesen sein, als mich eine Kollegin fragte, ob ich auch ein Schildkrötenkissen häkeln würde. Klar, eine neue Herausforderung nehme ich immer gerne an. Ich hatte noch ein paar andere Projekte „auf der Nadel“, die ich davor fertigstellen wollte, aber am Ende dauerte es doch länger, bis ich endlich die Arbeit am Kissen aufnahm. Vor drei Wochen war ich zuversichtlich, bis zum Urlaubsende meiner Kollegin fertig zu sein, aber dann blieb doch nicht so viel Zeit zum Häkeln wie ursprünglich gedacht.

Ich wollte nach dieser Anleitung häkeln, mochte aber die Bögen am Rand nicht. Stattdessen häkelte ich Sechsecke für die Oberseite und nähte versehentlich sieben an das obere Sechseck. Allerdings gefällt mir das Resultat besser, da das obere Sechseck nun rund erscheint. Ich muss zugeben, dass ich keine Lust hatte, für die Unterseite erneut 8 Sechsecke zu häkeln und begnügte mich mit einem Kreis und wechselnden Farben. Ich habe einen Karton zurechtgeschnitten, um eine glatte Unterseite zu erhalten. Die Schildkröte ist mit einem Kissen ausgestopft. Kopf, Beine und Schwanz wurden nach dem Ausstopfen angenäht. Obige Anleitung habe ich für den Kopf genutzt, aber Beine und Schwanz fertigte ich nach eigenem Gutdünken. Falls jemandem die Augen bekannt vorkommen, könnte es daran liegen, dass ich sie auch für die Bus-Spardose verwendet hatte.

Ich bin mit dem Resultat sehr zufrieden und mehr als glücklich, dass meine Kollegin sich sehr über die Schildkröte gefreut hat.
